Summer Schedule

Emergency Preparedness Group (EPG) needs your help & participation in a variety of ways you might not expect. Our mission is to do the work of Christ by preparing and educating a network of local citizens to help others in our community in times of disaster and other needs for assistance.

Ways To Get Involved:

Individual wildfire lot evaluations – Could your home “defend itself” against a wildfire after you have wisely evacuated to safety? Let us help you. TLUMC EPG members who are trained in the Wildland Fire Assessment Program will come to your property and make a list of suggestions to reduce risks for your home and vegetation. We will train you how to do these evaluations for others, too.

July 7 & Aug. 4, 9 a.m. – next EPG planning meetings (topics: preparedness displays, summer work days, mentoring local neighborhoods how to run their own chipping work days, learning about “ministering to people suffering from disaster,” training new people to do wildfire lot evaluations, making EPG work and mission sustainable for next 20 years, etc.)

Additional events and types of work coming in the near future, dates TBD. Neighborhood mentoring and talking with homeowners, hosting and teaching CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) trainings, possible collaboration as team leads with Tri-Lakes Monument Fire Protection District and their new wood chipper. Sign up for emailed information at

Pray for this ministry. For safety, for wisdom, for the ability to reach our neighbors in God’s name while we put on our boots and go out to be the hands and feet of Jesus. What would Jesus do? He would put on his safety gear and help people cut down the tree that the wind just blew down on top of the house. Or give them a hug. Or feed them lunch.
