One Flesh: Sexuality, Scripture, and the Church

A Four-Week Study led by Dr. Bob Kaylor

October 8, 15, 22, 29

6:30 - 8:00pm @ TLUMC

Human sexuality is a major hot-button topic in both the culture and the church. The United Methodist Church denomination itself is facing a separation over different visions of sexuality, the authority of the Bible, and how to best represent God and minister with others in a sexually-charged culture. While the debate rages, many people struggle with questions: What does the Bible really say about sexuality and marriage? What about my loved ones who are same-sex attracted? How do we love people who are different from us and think and act differently than we do?

This four-week study is designed to deal with some of these questions and to address the world-views, arguments, and Scriptures that inform various perspectives on human sexuality. As we consider where God may be leading TLUMC in the midst of both denominational and cultural changes, Pastor Bob Kaylor believes it's important for us to discern together, read together, pray together, and explore human sexuality through the lens of Scripture, tradition, reason, and experience. Though we may all bring different perspectives to the table, our goal is to be a church that reflects the way of Christ and ministers to all people with care, compassion, and with the transforming power of the gospel.

Breakdown of the four sessions of the study:

October 8 - Bodies, Souls, and Human Life: Our Creation in the Image of God

October 15 - Sex, Scripture, and the Mission of Marriage

October 22 - Homosexuality and the Church: Two Views

October 29 - Sex and the Single Savior: Ministry in the Way of Christ

There is no specific book for this study, but Pastor Bob will provide a comprehensive reading list for those who wish to go deeper. Join us for this important study.
