Dear TLUMC Church Family,
On Tuesday, April 11th the TLUMC Church Council met to discuss plans for the 7-week interim period between Pastor Bob’s departure and the arrival of a new settled pastor. After consultation with the Staff Parish Relations Committee and our District Superintendent, it was decided to move to a temporary summer schedule for that interim time. The Council agreed that a reduced schedule of two services would allow greater flexibility and accessibility as we search for short-term pastoral leadership, this will also allow our new Pastor to assume their role and evaluate and address worship service times to meet the needs of the congregation.
After discussing several options the Council decided to offer a Contemporary Worship Service at 9 AM, and a traditional worship service at 10:30 AM. This new schedule will begin on May 14th and continue until new Pastoral leadership is in place.
We recognize that this decision may cause some anxiety, inconvenience, or dissatisfaction during this time of transition. Please know that the Council acted with good intentions and it is not our desire to add to an already challenging situation. It is our hope that the congregation will remain nimble, understanding, and open-minded as we work together to navigate this time and await details about our next pastor.
We recognize that the greatest inconvenience may be for those who currently attend the 8 AM Traditional Worship Service. We invite all of our 8 AM church family to remain connected and actively seek opportunities for spiritual growth during this transition. This may mean attending a different worship service and meeting people you may only see in passing at the moment. Or it may mean starting a Bible study or small group that means at that 8 AM hour. The Council is committed to helping all of our congregation members continue our mission to build followers of Jesus Christ to love and serve God and Neighbor. Please do not hesitate to reach out to myself or other members of your Church Council if you have specific concerns or ideas about this interim.
Thank you and God Bless,
TLUMC Church Council
