The Crucifixion: Understanding the Death of Jesus
For nearly 2,000 years, Christians have believed that the death of Jesus on the cross saves us from our sins. But how does that actually work and what did the death of Jesus actually accomplish for us and for God’s creation? Theologians have developed many theories about how Jesus’ death atones for human sin, but is there a way to understand it that brings together the entire witness of Scripture, history, and Christian theology in a way that brings people to a full understanding of the cross?
In this six week Lenten Study, Dr. Bob Kaylor will bring together some of the best classical and recent Christian scholarship and historical reflection on the death of Jesus to explore the meaning of the cross and the resurrection of Jesus as the most important event in human history. You will come away with a deeper understanding of the crucifixion and what it means for your life and the life of the world.
There is no required book for the study, but a list of recommended books will be provided.
