Our Annual Chili Cook-off / Talent Show / Baked Goods Auction will be on Saturday, March 13th beginning at 5:00 p.m. Once again, we expect this to be a real extravaganza of chili, talent, and lots of great desserts. Rumor has it that Jack Black (or a close facsimile) will be hosting the show. There are several ways to participate:

  1. Show us your talent! From the serious to the silly, we are looking for entertainers. Sing a song, perform a skit, share some magic, dance, juggle, play an instruments, spin plates… This is not a competition but a variety show to showcase that TLUMC’s got talent.
  2. Enter the Chili Cook-off! Cook up a batch of chili and bring it for a taste testing. People will vote for a favorite chili by donating money. The chili that raises the most money will be declared the winner and the chef will receive a fabulous prize.
  3. Bake an auction item! We need baked goods to auction off, either thru the live auction during the talent show, or in a silent auction. Bring us cookies, cakes, pies, brownies, tiramisu… We will auction them off and all proceeds will go to our youth mission trips this summer!
  4. Come to the Chili Cook-off/Talent Show/ Baked Goods Auction and bring some extra cash! Vote for your favorite chili, buy a dessert, and enjoy the show! This is a great night for our entire church family. Even if you don’t want to buy anything, come out for the fun. We know you will enjoy a great night.

Pastor Bob and Carolyn Plan for Their Future
Pastor Bob - Monthly Message
At the Staff Parish Relations Committee Meeting on January 12th Pastor Bob shared with the members his plan to retire at the end of his current appointment. He quipped, "Now that the Lower Level is finished, it is time for us to move on." On a more serious note, however, he sees his role as Carolyn‘s primary caregiver, their need to be with both children and grandchildren and quality time to "smell the roses," as important to their final decision. Recently, they were notified that their son, Rob, an Air Force officer, and family, will be departing for a three year assignment to England in late spring, or early summer. Mom and Dad definitely need and want quality time with them before their departure.

For most of the congregation, Pastor Bob has been the only Tri Lakes United Methodist Church Minister they have known. There will be many opportunities for you to express your love and thanks to Pastor Bob and Carolyn for all they have meant to you, your family, and our Congregation. Please pray for Pastor Bob and Carolyn as they go through this time of transition and make plans for the future.

The Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) is the team in our church with the primary responsibility for working with the annual conference when there is a change in pastoral appointments. The United Methodist Church operates with an appointment system, unlike some denominations in which congregations "call" a pastor. SPRC plays a vital role, along with the District Superintendent and the Rocky Mountain Conference Bishop, in this appointive process. SPRC represents the voice of the congregation, and the Bishop makes the final appointment. As we proceed through the process, I would encourage you to pray for the SPRC members – there are nine of us – as we represent you during this season of change.

Yours in Christian fellowship,
Bob Scharp
Chairman – Staff Parish Relations Committee
Pastor Bob
