Wednesdays With Wesley
Class and Small Group Experience
Dates:
September 2 through December 16, 2020
Time:
6:30-7:45pm
Class Venue:
Zoom Video Conferencing with Breakout Rooms
Description:
The sermons of John Wesley provide the doctrinal and practical foundation for the Methodist movement and yet many Methodists, both lay and clergy, have never read or engaged with these important texts. From Wesley’s sermons, grounded in Scripture, we learn much about how to become a Christian through his reflections on grace and the order of salvation; we learn about how to be a Christian through his practical sermons grounded in the Sermon on the Mount; and we learn how to remain a Christian through sermons on navigating the challenges of faithful living in a broken world. Each sermon is rich in content that will spark both theological reflection and a desire to live the life of holiness to which Methodists have been called.
In this class and small group experience, Pastor Bob Kaylor will lead us in studying these sermons and then each class member will be part of a continuing small group that reflects on the sermon and teaching while building connections with one another and helping one another apply the learning to their lives. Each class session will have thirty minutes of teaching, thirty minutes of small group time, and fifteen minutes for questions. We encourage those who sign up to commit for the entirety of the course so that our small groups remain strong and consistent communities.
Participants can sign up for Wednesdays with Wesley beginning in August. Since we’re meeting online, feel free to invite friends and family from outside the church to join us for this online experience. Participants may want to purchase a copy of The Sermons of John Wesley edited by Kenneth J. Collins and Jason Vickers (Abingdon Press, 2013), or download each week’s sermon for free online (we will provide a link each week).
Join us for this unique opportunity to not only learn about our Methodist theology and doctrine, but also experience the transformational power of learning with others in a transformational small group!
